Ha, interesting. It's my understanding that if a restaurant grinds its own meat, you can order it as rare as you like. But you can't get it below medium at, say, a Ruby Tuesday. But i've had 'em bloody at the Crepe Cellar and they are gooooooood! (-:

Awesome article. I didn't realize it was illegal to serve a med rare burger? I also thought that if a restaurant ground it's own meat it was safe to serve it medrare.

In the lab, E. coli are essentially the white mice of the microbiology world....out of the lab, E. coli become deadly predators that lurk on under-cooked foods, just waiting to be consumed by unsuspecting humans. It sort of reminds me of those Sour Patch Kids commercials....first they're sour then they're sweet. It is a poor, little, misunderstood bacterium for sure!
