Shoya Izakaya - Doraville, GA

Atlanta, Georgia . . . The city seems like a huge metropolis to someone like the likes of me from Durham, NC. In fact I consider it to be one of the top 10 biggest cities in the US. Maybe I'm just naive. Atlanta is currently only the 33rd largest city in the US by population but packs more quality restaurants than some of the big boys. Shoya belongs in the big city, it produces super fresh seafood and yakitori while seemingly at full capacity at all times.

This is a long post so bear with me, I promise that some of these foods, as bizarre as they may seem, are truely delicious and deserve your attention if you stop by this strip mall eatery.

Kushi - Vancouver, BC, Canada

Karaage Combo Box
As soon as I walked out of Coco Noodle Express I walked right upon this spot. Of course you can imagine the thoughts that were going through my head. "Am I still hungry?" "Could I eat more right now?" "Can it really be as good as it smells and looks?" "How do I tell my friends I want to eat again?"

Suzu - San Francisco, CA

I happened upon this spot while we were in San Francisco for The Fillmore show. Playing a couple days in a town always makes for a nice time on the eating front for me. I actually get the time to go explore areas that I would otherwise not have the time to do. My friends Cat and Zack came along on my quest to find a noodle shop and we came across this place, Suzu.

Yakitori Totto - New York, NY

Yakitori Totto is an Izakaya. I love Izakaya's. I love Izakaya's so much I'm currently having a special grill made so I can cook Izakaya style food. Some of you may be asking what IS an Izakaya? Well in a nut shell, it's a Japanese bar that serves food. And not just nuts and pretzels, we're talking well prepared chicken parts, noodle soups, grilled rice balls, and much much more!

Kiss Seafood - San Francisco, CA

What an amazing experience I had at this restaurant.  Located in the Japantown district of San Francisco, CA, Kiss Seafood is a boutique sushi restaurant where the food is prepared made to order.  The venue is a small little shop including a sushi bar and 4 tables, the whole restaurant fitting no more than 12 people.  Make sure you call at least a day or two before if you want to get seated, as they don't accept walk-ins easily. Oh yeah...plan at least 1.5 hrs to eat.
