Mizuna - Spokane, WA
Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 12:00AM
I went in to Mizuna with high hopes of being blown away. The ingredients are local, and the outdoor seating is beautiful and everything screams out give me a chance. I wasn't let down. However, I also wasn't hungry. Sometimes, I find it my duty to go out and find a spot to eat even though I may not be hungry. I feel like it's my job to be able to recommend a spot to anyone who might ask, and I feel like I've let them down if I can't at least steer them in the right direction.
Travis and I set out walking on this most recent visit to Spokane and we came across this place. There wasn't a long wait and we were seated in a nice shaded area out side next to the main building. There were loads of 30-somethings eating lunch in business casual uniforms and then there was us. Just rolling out of bed and in need of some sort of stimulation we we ordered. . .
Sweet Potato Quesadilla
The sweet potato quesadilla. Now I don't know if you know this about Travis, but I think he's possibly the biggest critic there is when it comes to what he thinks tastes good. He's not afraid to show it and not afraid to tell you either. We both agreed though, this was a great new take on a quesadilla. Instead of the cheese on the inside there was a creamy pureed sweet potato, and the whole thing was grilled and served with roasted corn salsa and salad.
Grilled Ahi Tuna Salad
All too often do I order an Ahi Tuna salad to get tuna that is just past it's prime and should be turned into a different dish. Unfortunately, this was one of those times. My tuna was cooked to perfection, but I could tell it wasn't the freshest cut. A bit of a disappointment after the awesome appetizer. The greens however, were nice and fresh and not over dressed.
I guess that's just how it goes sometimes. You can't always win right?

They say you got to lose a couple fights to win (in regards to the Ahi which looked delicious by the way, great photo)
