Latte
On our brief but eventful trip to Melbourne, Australia, we stayed near this great little café that we found ourselves frequenting throughout the day. The coffee was always delicious and the pastries were hand-made on a daily basis. Breakfast became lunch became dinner and before we knew it the employees were calling us by name.
I'm not one to drink lattes but these baristas were good and the coffee flavor was there so why not. These are a couple of the treats I ate over the course of our short stay.
Mushroom Gallette
This was quite possibly the best use of mushrooms and cheese on phyllo dough I've ever put in my mouth. The ingredients were so fresh and the whole thing just melted in your mouth. Creamy and mushroomy goodness!
Orange (something? - forgot to write it down)
This was a sweet cake that had such a nice orange flavor. The texture of the outside was that of the corner pieces of a good brownie and the inside was moist and orangey. I had a bite of Pete's and I couldn't there so had to get one for myself.
I wish I had more time so I could try all the different items on the menu. If you visit this part of Melbourne I highly recommend a visit to this nice little spot. Tell the folks that american rock band looking group of guys said hello!
Cheers,

Brings back great memories of my favorite city - Melbourne! So glad you found the food & coffee to be tasty - hope you had a chance to check out Victoria Market, too!
that orange cake is most likely a 'friand', which is an aussied up version of a french cake called a financier. it mostly consists of almond meal, sugar & eggs with a touch flour to bind it. they are very moist and just the right size.
i've been to il fornaio. its quality. you are right, they do make good lattes. i also attended the show at the prince of wales that night. please come back soon.
