Avett New Year's Eating Guide - Asheville, NC
Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 12:01AM
This one's a bit more accurate. I've eaten at all these places and have found some really yummy things at all of them. You might have to go super early to get morning breakfast at either of the two breakfast places but they are well worth the wait if you don't get there early enough.
Tune in tomorrow for the eating guide to Atlanta.

Barley's Taproom
Everytime I'd come to Asheville back in my climbing days, we'd stop off here and get some beer and a calzone. Their calzones are huge and tastey to boot! If you like beer and pizza this will be your spot.

Rosetta's Kitchen
This is one of the many vegetarian restaurants in Asheville, NC. I just love eating here after a hard day in the studio.

Salsa's Mexican Carribean Restaurant
6 Patton Avenue
Asheville, NC 28801

You can't go wrong with Salsa's. The prices may be a tad on the high side but the portion sizes make up for the high prices. The food here is great and dining in is a MUST.

Over Easy
It's a real toss up between here and Sunny Pointe for breakfast. I always get the Huevos Rancheros here or whatever's on special. Be prepared to wait in line though if it's too late in the morning. This places only fits a handful of people and it's first come first serve. Don't forget to try their homemade hot sauce!

Sunny Pointe
This spot is a little further from downtown Asheville, but if you have a car and you're willing to wait for the best biscuits in town, check this place out.

Noodle Shop
This is my little comfort food noodle shop. Doc Chey's is passable sometimes but this place is just a bit more on the authentic side. Nothing to the restaurant except a place to order and some dingy tables. What's there NOT to love.

Thai Basil
This is a small little take out place that's become pretty popular. If you're craving Thai this may be your only bet. Asheville's not really known for their Asian cuisine.

Laughing Seed
40 Wall St
Asheville, NC 28801
(828) 252-3445
Probably my favorite vegetarian/vegan place in town. They've got some really healthy foods here that will keep you full for hours. I think the dish I like is called the 'Buddha Bowl.'

Tupelo Honey is my Asheville breakfast haunt of choice. Fried chicken BLTs!
Salsa's! Mmmm...
The Early Girl Eatery is by far my favorite place for breakfast or lunch.
Mela's (Indian Cuisine) lunch buffet is one of the best afternoon deals in the city. $8.99 for the buffet or $11 with a hot chai. Tasty & delicious!
I'm a little partial to Mamacitas for Subway-style Mexican but haven't explored many of the sit-down establishments...look forward to trying Salsas!
Good picks. Laughing Seed ranks up there with best veggie place in all of NC. Best part of Asheville is being able to wonder around and stumble across hole in the wall that is out of the world.
You posted my spot for tommorow, so now it'll be crowded! Come on Joe.... find your own resteraunts.
^That would be assuming people actually read my blog. :)
^^^^I've been to Early Girl several times and have always enjoyed it. I just like the quaintness of Over easy and the biscuits at Sunny pointe. I also think their foods significantly more unhealthy than early girl. :) that's a must!

If you are out near Sunny Pointe a great newer place for lunch or dinner is the Universal Joint. Local Beer and Good Food. The Pimento, Bacon and jalapeno burger is out of control.
Yum!
It seems we agree on where to eat in Asheville. Next time you're downtown for dinner, I suggest Bouchon. Can be crowded, but so worth the wait! Happy New Year!
PS I love you
Another option for Thai is Suwanna's Thai Orchid... Really tasty and not terribly pricey. Located on Broadway in the old Rio Burrito location. Also check out Mo Daddy's next to Mamacita's. Great drinks and food!
You posted 2 of my favorites....Over Easy and Rosetta's. My only problem is that I now live in Florida...
Next time you're in Asheville you should hit up the Early Girl Eatery. It's so fantastic! Went there before your NYE show!
I have to say tupelo honey also...its a must in battery park
Next time you come to Asheville, hit up Papas and Beer Mexican Food. It is a California style, and the best I've ever had. Just got back from Austin and San Antonio, TX, and I prefer Paps and Beer over anything I had down there...
